Description
16.5 in W x 9.25 in H Notes from the Curator Mario Valentino opened his atelier in Naples in 1952, inheriting the mantle from his father Vincenzo, who had built a reputation among Italian nobility and the House of Savoy for exquisite leatherwork. The house counted Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner, and Jackie Kennedy—who commissioned custom pieces—among its clients during its mid-century heyday, and collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld and Giorgio Armani on designs during the 1970s and 1980s, its campaigns shot by luminaries such as Helmut Newton and Robert Mapplethorpe. This Boston bag, executed in PVC-coated canvas printed with the house's repeating chevron V-monogram and trimmed in natural leather with gilt-toned hardware, belongs to that era of transatlantic glamour, when the Neapolitan brand's leather-goods collections moved freely between daywear and evening, anchored in craftsmanship rather than seasonal caprice.
