The design—two symmetrical lobed panels converging on a central sunburst motif crowned by a substantial one-carat diamond—echoes the double-clip brooch architecture fashionable in the era, though here unified into a single composition. Platinum's tensile strength allowed craftsmen to carve delicate openwork galleries and apply milgrain borders without sacrificing structure, a technical feat that white gold could not reliably achieve at this scale. The pairing of transitional-cut and old European–cut diamonds, totalling four and a half carats in near-colourless G–H grades, reflects the period's preference for geometric brilliance over earlier romantic cuts.
