Description

Brand: Gucci Material: Black pebbled leather Exterior Colour: Black Hardware: Gold-tone metal Dimensions: 8.5" W x 7.5" H x 2.5" D (approx.) Strap Drop: 21" (approx.) Closure: Flap with tab closure Interior: Tan suede lining with zip pocket and compartments Inside of the bag is dusty. Origin: Made in Italy This vintage Gucci crossbody presents the Florentine house's enduring command of refined leather craft. Executed in supple black pebbled calfskin, the softly rounded silhouette closes via a curved flap and decorative tab, secured by the house's gold-tone nameplate badge. The interior, lined in tan suede, offers a zipped compartment and open pockets. An adjustable leather strap allows versatile wear at the shoulder or across the body. Founded in Florence in 1921, Gucci built its reputation on quality leather goods that married material integrity with timeless silhouettes, a philosophy embodied in this wearable Italian-made piece. Notes from the Curator The images reveal a vintage Gucci crossbody bearing the gold-stamped rectangular nameplate badge and armored knight's shield crest, hallmarks of the house's output during the late 1970s and early 1980s, when bags carried no serial numbers but instead featured the Gucci inscription, followed by gold-printed numbering. The Gucci Accessory Collection was conceived in the late 1970s and launched in 1979 by the Perfume division, a secondary line designed to broaden the brand's reach while retaining its Florentine leather integrity. Unlike the canvas monogram pieces common to that collection, this example is executed entirely in pebbled calfskin, a choice that speaks to the house's commitment to material refinement even in diffusion offerings. The gold-tone nameplate closure, curved flap, and supple tan suede lining with zipped compartments recall the architectural logic of equestrian tack—discrete, functional, beautiful—an ethos that ran unbroken from Guccio Gucci's saddlery workshop in 1921 to the compact crossbodies that accompanied the jet set through the airports of Milan, Tokyo, and New York half a century later.
