Description
Notes from the Curator The 5200M.1, with its 35-millimetre case and five-link stainless-steel bracelet, belongs to Gucci's 1990s dress-watch canon, a period defined by black sunburst dials and a remarkably slim five-millimetre profile. The dial bears Roman numeral indices and houses a date window at six o'clock, alongside a sapphire crystal and Swiss quartz movement. Gucci entered watchmaking in 1972, settling in Switzerland as the first high-fashion house to do so, and their inaugural Model 2000 earned a Guinness Record for selling more than one million units in two years. The 5200 series arrived two decades later, during the brand's late-nineties renaissance, carrying forward the maison's commitment to Swiss craftsmanship within a restrained, round-case format. The hidden-fold clasp on this example's bracelet is a hallmark of Gucci's tool-watch details rendered elegant, a quiet engineering touch often overshadowed by the dial's radial guilloché finish and the signature interlocking-G crown logo.
