Description
Height: 4" Width: 7.75" Depth: 0.75" Notes from the Curator Prada's quilted Tessuto continental wallet draws from the same revolutionary nylon Miuccia Prada introduced in 1978, when she took inspiration from durable parachutes and began experimenting with technical fabrics that would ultimately redefine luxury. Since the 1980s, her iconic collection of nylon handbags led the world to reconsider the main fashion trends, and the diamond-quilted treatment seen here applies that radical material thinking to a wallet silhouette far from its original military and industrial origins. This double-woven nylon is notable as one of the most durable and thickest fabrics used in designer bags, and wrapping it in a quilted chevron pattern adds tactile dimension while the red saffiano leather trim and interior anchor the piece in Prada's dual-material language. Learning how to work with the nylon took three or four years, and in the 1990s, the company found a very specific type of nylon that was more expensive than silk because the thread is really thin and very precious—a fact that surprises collectors who still assume nylon means affordability rather than meticulous engineering.
