Description
size: 25 x 14mm weight: 3.62 grams material: platinum gemstones: natural tanzanite 3.96ct natural diamonds: 0.23ctw, SI, H-I Notes from the Curator Tanzanite originates from a single deposit in the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania, discovered in 1967, and Tiffany & Co. named this blue-violet variety of zoisite in honor of the country where it first emerged. The pear-cut profile displayed in this platinum pendant is a calculated response to one of the stone's defining optical traits: tanzanite is strongly trichroic, showing three distinct color axes—blue, violet, and reddish-brown—and is one of the most pronounced examples of trichroism in any commercially available gemstone. Skilled cutters orient the stone to maximize the blue-violet axis while minimizing the brown component, a process that determines the final color presentation more than any other variable. The 3.96-carat center stone here, framed by a halo of white diamonds totaling 0.23 carats, benefits from platinum's ability to enhance the gem's cool blue-violet tones, a pairing that became the benchmark for contemporary tanzanite presentation.
